Austrian ski legend Mario Matt launches the ski season in Bansko on December 14th!

Mario Matt continues the tradition the best skiers to kick off the ski season in Bansko. He is the special guest for the opening ceremony on December 14th, 2019.

The Olympic and three-time world champion triumphed on February 27th, 2011 in the slalom at the Alberto Tomba run in Pirin. For this success he received as a gift an apartment at the 5-star Pirin Golf & Country Club.

Mario Matt was born in Zams, Tyrol and like all Austrians he grew up skiing. He made his World Cup debut on December 21st, 1999 when he was 20 and finished his racing career on March 12th, 2015 - at 35. During his 17 seasons on the slopes Matt achieved 15 victories (14 in slalom and 1 in super combined). He has climbed the podium 42 times. His name will remain in history as the second-oldest skier to win Olympic gold in Sochi 2014 (slalom) after Swedish Andre Myhrer. Super Mario has the third longest interval between his first and last victory (13 years, 10 months and 22 days) after Ingemar Stenmark and Didier Cuche. His younger brother 26-year-old Michael Matt is also a skier.
